We wanted to try something different and could not think of a better way than to start with a wonderful update we received regarding Cy.In 2012 Cayenne Pepper along with her family were surrendered to a local horse shelter. Cy was just 2 years old. Due to her age, size, and her quirky attitude Cy found herself in a very precarious situation. It was then that the Refuge decided to take Cy in as a resident to give her time to grow, mature and come into her own.Early on It was apparent that she would be one of those horses that would need one girl to call her own. Cy made her home with three other young fillies that were also at the Refuge for being hard to place due to age. She was petite, flighty, severely afraid of shots, sassy, beautiful, and really made you work to gain her respect. Our vision for her future was a girl who would fall head over heels for her, dote on her, love her, have gentle hands and patience with her all the while being the confident leader she needed. We hoped for all the things a sweet and sassy little mare needed in her life to be all that she could be.In 2016 a very special donor sponsored several months of training for Cy. It was then that she met Sheyanne. We watched as the hopes and dreams that we had for Cy unfolded and became true. After being at the Refuge over four years, Cy went home with “her girl.”We did not care for Cy on our own for four years. You did that, you were a part of her journey finding her forever home. It took time, money, and lots of care. We would have not been able to care for Cy for so many years without the support of you, our donors. Cy and Sheyanne competed today in their first event together. They placed 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the events. These two had never ran a full barrel pattern before today. To say the least her Sheyanne’s Mama was proud! We are too! Sheyanne has persevered and developed a relationship with Cy that is unbreakable. This once little mare deemed “unadoptable” is now living the dream with a girl that loves her unconditionally. You can’t ask for anything better than that! It's with a heavy heart that we make this post concerningFrancisco. Dr. Sarah came out to see Francisco last week. We have been increasingly concerned about his health and wellbeing. Dr. Sarah's exam showed that Francisco is completely blind now. He has glaucoma in his right eye which is very painful and his heart is dropping beats. He is now considered hospice. It is getting more and more difficult to keep him safe and comfortable and because of this we have made the hard decision to lay him to rest while he still has some quality of life. This is not the 1st time that this decision has landed on our shoulders. Francisco's story is common in the rescue world. We only know bits and pieces of his life but what we do know is he was a show horse, he has impeccable breeding, he was used as a stud after his show days were over, when he was not useful or making money he was rehomed to a substandard home that did not provide necessary medical care or proper diet. He was then released in the foothills to fend for himself partially blind with no teeth and unable to graze normally. We can also say that a village has helped save Francisco. Two beautiful angels, Linda and Linda who rescued him , got vet care for him and put him on a mash diet that helped him regain all of his weight. When they contacted us we realized that Francisco was the same gelding we have tried to help 5 years ago when we rescued Sierra. Even though we were not accepting horses our community made it possible for us to take in Francisco. You, the village that stood beside us while we took this sweet natured, very in need horse into the Refuge to care for in his last days. This 35 year old special needs boy has brought much joy to those who have met him. We want to do right by him so we are once again asking for help. Please help us lay this beautiful proud soul to rest peacefully. If you can help please contact Cathy at 530-218-7214. Our PayPal at https://www.paypal.me/TrinityHorseRefugeCA. Mail at P.O. Box 5, Brownsville, Ca 95919. Thank you to the village that stepped up to be his saving grace.October has come and gone in a flash. We had a very busy month with lots of new visitors, lots of new friends and lots of hope for new volunteers in the future. Some of our highlights for the month included donated apples for the horses, lots of donated tack, donated panels and gates, visits from Mia and Breanna and our best Lynn. We want to thank all who donated to help us over the last month and all the calls Bangor Feed received for cubes and grain. We know we could not do this without your generosity and are so thankful we have such a great family who loves our resident horses. We will be heading to the feed store in the morning for our weekly feed. If you would like to help please go to https://www.paypal.me/TrinityHorseRefugeCA, you can call Bangor Feed at 530-679-1429 or stop by the Refuge. Please remember to share our posts. You never know what blessings can be behind a flick of a fingerDr. Saralynn was out to check Lexi Thursday. She thinks she has an ulcer and needs to be on Gastraguard for three weeks. We have sent an email to the manufacturer and Dr. Sara is seeing if She can locate any coupons. The meds are 30.00 a day for 21 days. We want to let Lexi enjoy the summer after such a hard winter. We will revisit her quality of life before the next winter. When it rains it pours, our umbrellas are definitely in use here at the Refuge. We still have our farrier, feed and vet to take care of with another big prayer for Lexi's meds. You can help by donating, praying and sharing. Thank you so much for standing with us through thick and thin. PayPal at https://www.paypal.me/TrinityHorseRefugeCA. You can also call Bangor Feed directly at 530-679-1429 or Dr. Saralynn at 530-565-6012. Thank you for your continued prayer and support.Dec 2021: I'm sorry we have been quite here at the Refuge. Cathy had a tough week healthwise, then there was the rain and snow with all that goes along with that. We are holding on here and are feeling very blessed with many calling in bags of cubes for us at the feed store to surprise donations. Cathy received a call from an angel who wanted to know if we had a balance with our vet (always❤) and wanted to pay it. We also received a surprise donation from Bryon T. for our angel Mary and Tom S., in Wheatland. You have all kept us going with your love and kindness. We definitely could not do this without you. Thank you Deborah S., Glenda P., Bryan T. (Mary and Tom S.) Sharon G., Suzan H., and Katherine L. for taking care of our herd
